The appointment came after the Secretary General Screening Committee reviewed applications and interviewed candidates.
Following this formal process, the committee recommended Obenson as the next JCI Secretary General. This recommendation was submitted to 2015 JCI President Ismail Haznedar who appointed Obenson to the position, which was then approved by the General Assembly, allowing for formal appointment of Obenson as JCI Secretary General.
Obenson has served as a member of the JCI World Headquarters team since 2002. Prior to his appointment as Secretary General, Obenson served as Acting Secretary General, overseeing the management of the organization and the World Headquarters team based in St. Louis, USA.
Not only has Obenson been actively engaged as a member of the World Headquarters team, but he has also been a long-time member of JCI. Obenson first joined JCI in 1995 as a founding member of his JCI Local Organization, JCI Limbe Atlantic in his native Cameroon, where he held several leadership positions before starting work with the international organization.
Prior to joining the JCI World Headquarters team over a decade ago, Obenson served as an Associate in a legal firm in Cameroon, where most of his practice was based on civil litigation, criminal law, commercial transactions and international trade. He is a Barrister of Law and is a current member of the Cameroon Bar Association. Obenson holds a Master of Law from Washington University in St. Louis, USA.
Born in Limbe, Cameroon, Obenson currently resides in St. Louis, USA with his wife Victorine and their sons Asher and Eli. He remains actively engaged with local community affairs, and is fluent in English and French.
Through his appointment as JCI Secretary General, Obenson will continue to utilize forward-thinking concepts to further the JCI Mission as well as make movements to help JCI be the organization that unites all sectors of society to create sustainable impact.
